Basra: Verdigris Makers

In his Aḥsan al-taqāsīm fi maʿrifat al-aqālīm, al-Muqaddasi (d. 991) mentions that verdigris (a pigment made by exposing copper to acetic acid) was made in Basra. Verdigris (zinjār) is a pigment employed in the manufacture of green ink and paint. See also: Cinnabar Maker; Painter; Paper Maker.
