Baghdad: Scribes
Date: Second half of the sixteenth century
Persian historian, Qadi Ahmad (or Qazi Ahmad; d. after 1606) records two skilled scribes working in Ottoman Baghdad named Mawlana Hasan ʿAli and Mawlana Baba Shah. See also: Illuminator; Qurʾan Scribe; Calligrapher; Paper Maker.

Three illustrated manuscript copies exist of a genealogy of scribes put together by Yusuf b. ʿAbd al-Hadi and Luqman b. Sayyid. Two copies, both in the Istanbul Topkap Sarayi Müzesi, are signed by the scribe Yusuf bin Muhammad.
