Azair: Brickmakers

Date: 1951-58

Wilfred Thesiger (d. 2003) photographed a kiln for the making of bricks, located on the banks of the Tigris river near to Azair. He relates that the village contained a series of these structures dotted along the banks of the river. The bricks were sent to the suburbs of Basra for constructing bungalows.
