Al-Khidr: Rug Makers

Date: 2013-17

The article describes the construction of a traditional wooden boat (tarada) that was lined on the inside with brightly-coloured Samawa rugs, combining a flat-weave base with embroidered details. These rugs were made by the Khawla Bint Alzwar Feminist Association, established by Um Mohammed from al-Khidr, located near the ancient site of Ur. The rugs are illustrated in photographs.
