al-Hiba: Loom Makers
Date: 1960s
Sometimes reed is used in place of wood for making smaller looms. The reeds are split to the desired size and shaped for their purpose. For carpet weavers, though, the looms are made from imported hardwoods. Ochsenschlager records that in the 1960s almost every household had someone who could make woven belts, bags, or slings on the smaller looms.
